Ankle Foot Orthosis
An Ankle Foot Orthosis, or more commonly shortened to AFO is an external orthosis fitted to the ankle and foot. At Interface Orthotics, we may prescribe an AFO for a number of purposes. These may include reducing movement, supporting weak or spastic muscles, reducing pain, joint alignment/positioning and improving quality of life.
PDE Orthoses
A Posterior Dynamic Element (PDE) orthosis is a AFO style device including a PDE strut. A PDE strut bends under weight bearing and then provides energy return. This energy return assists to push the foot forward and begin an efficient step.

Foot Orthoses
At Interface Orthotics we often prescribe, fabricate and fit foot orthoses. Our foot orthoses are custom made shoe inserts which are designed to optimise alignment, minimise pain or distribute weight bearing throughout the whole foot. At Interface Orthotics we use a foam impression box to take an impression of your foot for a mess free casting appointment!
